Runway is a decision, not a number
Runway is usually described as cash divided by monthly burn. But it is not fixed: every invoice you collect earlier, every subscription you cancel and every payment you time better moves it. Here is where to start.
- Find the spend nobody would miss.
- Collect what you are owed, faster.
- Re-time large payments where you can.
- Renegotiate the contracts that renewed on autopilot.
Find the spend nobody would miss
Export the last three months of card and bank spend and sort it by vendor. Most teams find at least a handful of tools nobody uses, duplicate subscriptions and seats for people who have left. Cancelling them is the fastest runway gain there is.
Collect faster
Late invoices are an interest-free loan to your customers. Send invoices the day work is delivered, offer card payments, and set automatic reminders for anything overdue.
- Invoice on delivery, not at month-end
- Add a pay-by-card link to every invoice
- Remind politely at 3, 7 and 14 days overdue
“We added a pay link to our invoices and our average collection time dropped from 41 to 19 days. That alone bought us two months.”
Re-time and renegotiate
Annual plans paid upfront are cheaper, but they drain cash all at once. When runway is tight, ask for quarterly billing. And contracts that renewed automatically are worth a call – suppliers would rather keep you at a discount than lose you.
Watch it weekly
Runway changes every week, so look at it every week. Digipay’s runway view updates as transactions come in, so the whole leadership team works from the same number.
