How to build the right finance stack

Building the right finance stack is key

The tools you choose in the first year tend to stay for the next five. A finance stack that fits together saves hours every week; one that does not creates spreadsheets nobody trusts. The good news: the right stack is small. Most growing companies need only four pieces.

  1. A business account that sees every inflow and outflow.
  2. Cards with limits and receipts built in.
  3. An accounting tool your accountant already knows.
  4. Payroll that pays people on time, in their currency.

Three colleagues planning together around a desk Pick tools together: the people who use them every day know where the friction is.

How to choose the right tools for your company?

Start with the jobs, not the brands. Write down what has to happen every month – paying suppliers, chasing invoices, closing the books, paying the team – and who does each job today. Then look for tools that remove steps from those jobs, not tools with the longest feature list.

What to consider when choosing your finance stack?

Integration matters more than any single feature. Every tool should talk to your account and your accounting software without manual exports.

  • Does it sync with your accounting tool automatically?
  • Can you control who spends what, and approve it?
  • Will it still work with three entities and five currencies?
  • Is pricing clear as you grow, or does it jump at each tier?

“The best finance stack is the one your team actually uses. Fewer tools, connected properly, beat a dozen clever ones every time.”

What are the most relevant factors to consider?

Security and support. Your finance tools hold your most sensitive data, so look for two-factor sign-in, role-based permissions and a clear audit trail. And when something goes wrong on payroll day, you want a human who answers within minutes, not days.

What finance stack do we use at Digipay?

We run our own company on Digipay for accounts, cards and payments, connected to a cloud accounting tool and a payroll provider. Month-end takes two days, invoices are paid on time, and nobody has opened a spreadsheet to reconcile a card statement in over a year.
